Frugal Guru [Pt. 1]

With a continued influx of jobless claims dampening the economic spirit in the United States and globally, (numbers are now at 5.56 million claims with unemployment at a 25+ year high), it’s never been a more crucial time for us to be more frugal in how we live our daily lives. Ivy and I, though we drool over 6 inch stilettos marked up to $600 (and that could be considered reasonable), we also look for ways to conserve in this day’s trendy age. From cutting down on clothing purchases to limiting nights out per week with friends, there are so many fun yet dollar-saving ways to continue to be fabulous. Here’s just a few of my recommendations (and feel free to add!):

Shopping

Stalk your local consignment stores or vintage boutiques. With style trends exhibiting silhouettes of the 80’s and even 70’s, you’re sure to find some priceless gems that will amp-up your wardrobe.

There are certain spring trends out there that scream “passing fad” but still tempt you to jump on the bandwagon and strut your fashionable stuff. I’m talking about the Romper or “jumpsuit” – a Katy Perry style staple and one that could just be fun, and definitely inexpensive if you do it right. Try Urban Outfitter’s Denim Romper on for size – espadrilles or peep-toe pumps and a cropped jacket are definite accessories.

Girl’s Night Out

Though we are all tempted to take advantage of nightly half price apps at our favorite trendy restaurant where normally, under otherwise stated circumstances, we would never be able to afford an actual meal, it’s still fun to pop out once a week and be adventurous. To cut back on the night’s spending, though, consider getting your group of girlfriends together ahead of time. Make a theme for the night like “Coca Cabana” and mix mojitos – all invited should contribute a portion of the mix’s recipe and throw in for the alcohol. Then go out, have that favorite specialty drink at that fabulous urban establishment and call it a night! Anyways, what could be more fun than an eclectic group of your closest ladies spending creative times with each other!
